CV Standards Around the World: What Changes Where

· 8 min read · Malish Careers

Sending a US-style one-page resume to a German employer, or a photo-bearing European CV to a US recruiter, signals unfamiliarity before your experience is read.

In the United States and Canada, keep to one or two pages, omit photos, date of birth, marital status and nationality, and lead with achievements.

In the United Kingdom and Ireland, two pages is standard, photos are not used, and a short personal profile at the top is expected.

In Germany and much of continental Europe, a professional photo and structured tabular layout remain common, and certificates are often attached.

In the Middle East and parts of Asia, personal details including nationality and visa status are frequently expected, and CVs run longer with a fuller project register.
