The ATS Resume Checklist Recruiters Wish You Followed

Applicant tracking systems do not reject candidates. Recruiters do. But the system decides what a recruiter ever sees, and a document that parses badly will quietly disappear from consideration before anybody reads a single achievement.
Start with structure. Use one column of content, standard section headings such as Experience, Education and Skills, and a conventional reverse-chronological order. Tables, text boxes, headers and footers frequently fail to parse, taking your contact details with them.
Then handle language. Mirror the exact terminology used in the job description rather than a clever synonym. If the posting says 'stakeholder management', do not write 'partner alignment'. Include both the acronym and the expanded term the first time you use it.
Finally, quantify. A line that says 'responsible for reporting' tells a recruiter nothing. A line that says 'rebuilt monthly reporting cycle, cutting close time from nine days to four' gives them a reason to call.
